Influential People in Crypto (2026 Update)
Cryptocurrency is a constantly changing industry, and new “big players” are constantly coming out of the woodwork to claim their project is the next big one. But who are the truly important people in cryptocurrency?
Vitalik Buterin, Michael Saylor, and Brian Armstrong are some important names to keep an eye on in the cryptocurrency industry. All of these men are innovators in their field and are currently working to further cryptocurrency adoption. Read on to learn more about influential people in cryptocurrency.
**Please note that our list does not include influential individuals who have been convicted of a crime (i.e., Changpeng Zhao). We believe that committing crimes negates the positives of these individuals’ contributions to the cryptocurrency world, and we will not platform them. As you consider your own influences, please always take care to omit convicted criminals.

1. Vitalik Buterin
Vitalik Buterin is one of the most influential individuals in cryptocurrency, and he appears on our top lists over and over again. As the creator and current CEO of Ethereum, he truly has an amazing mind that is working hard to support wider cryptocurrency adoption. While we aren’t sure if Ethereum will forever remain relevant, Buterin works hard to update and adapt his blockchain for the changing world and future. We are always interested in what he is designing next.
2. Michael Saylor
Michael Saylor has long been a die-hard Bitcoin fan, and he is the current individual championing the adoption of Bitcoin into the United States treasury. While we aren’t sure if he will be successful at that, he has been successful in his work to champion and change the image of Bitcoin.
As the current executive chairman of MicroStrategy, Michael Saylor doesn’t appear to invest in any other cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, but we know his work with it (and MicroStrategy) is basically full-time!
3. Brad Garlinghouse
Brad Garlinghouse is most well-known as the CEO of Ripple Labs. Ripple Labs is the company behind Ripple, but one reason we look up to Garlinghouse is because of his advocacy for a multi-blockchain future. Unlike Saylor, he doesn’t believe in a single token being the only one to make it, and he hopes multiple cryptocurrencies will weather the storm and eventually prevail.
4. Brian Armstrong
Brian Armstrong is the CEO of Coinbase, and while he didn’t make initial lists of influential individuals in crypto, he has really become an advocate in recent years. Additionally, his exchange, Coinbase, has made it possible for individuals around the world to invest in cryptocurrency without needing a technological background.
Not only is Brian Armstrong business savvy, but he has a background as a coder, working for both IBM and Deloitte. This makes him an absolute asset because not only can he discuss the business side of crypto, but he also knows the technological side well.
5. Elizabeth Stark
The first woman on our list, Elizabeth Stark, is the current CEO of Lightning Labs and has long been an advocate of widespread cryptocurrency adoption. She cites layer-two scaling solutions (of course) and believes they can help cryptocurrency become easier to use.
Like Armstrong, she is well-versed on the technical side of cryptocurrency and is well-known in the computer science space. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
6. Charles Hoskinson
Charles Hoskin has long been a feature on these lists of ours, and though he definitely continues to champion cryptocurrency as a whole, his focus in recent years has moved toward his project Cardano. Cardano is similar to Ethereum, and it was designed by Hoskins after he left the Ethereum project in 2014. We truly consider him to be one of the great minds of our time, and though we aren’t sure whether or not Cardano will ever rise to widespread popularity, it is a good Ethereum alternative.

7. Cynthia Lummis
A new addition to our list, Cynthia Lummis, isn’t like the rest because she didn’t invent or work on a blockchain; however, she is huge in the push for cryptocurrency-positive regulations. As a senator for Wyoming, the state had long had cryptocurrency positive regulations, and as those began to spill over into other states and into the Federal government, Lummis has been monumental in advising on blockchain policy gone right.
A huge advocate for “clear guidelines,” she wants cryptocurrency to thrive—but for the betterment of all humanity—and we find that admirable.
8. Mark Cuban
From Shark Tank to Owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban has made many smart investment decisions, including investments in blockchain. In fact, last we checked, you can shop with Bitcoin in the Mavericks store—how cool is that? One thing we love about Mark Cuban is that he really does seem to be in it for the people, as he is constantly supporting projects that make life better and easier for all. Of course, he still makes a profit (because otherwise he wouldn’t be a shark!) and has backed off his Bitcoin soapbox in the last few years, but we can truly say the world would be a darker place without Mark Cuban in it.
9. Gavin Wood
Last but certainly not least is Gavin Wood. Known for his work on Ethereum, he too left the project around the same time as Hoskinson to create his own. The blockchain he founded is known as Polkadot, and though it has lost steam in the last few years, it is still one of the few true rivals to Ethereum. A computer scientist and visionary, Woods has long been pro-crypto in the future of humanity, and unlike some of the other individuals on this list, he hasn’t gone all in on AI. While he does believe in the power of AI tech, he believes in the power of humans more.
Overall, everyone on this list has their own unique contribution to the cryptocurrency industry, and we wouldn’t be where we are without them. We highly recommend keeping an eye on these individuals to see where they lead society next!
