Should You Buy Ripple? (In 2025)

Ripple (XRP) has been making headlines since it snagged the 3rd place position on CoinMarketCap, and its value passed $3 per token earlier this month. Despite the bull run, some investors still have serious reservations about Ripple…so should you invest?

What is Ripple?

For a quick recap, Ripple is a peer-to-peer decentralized payment platform known for its speedy transactions and DEX (decentralized exchange) support  capabilities. It is similar to the SWIFT payment system, and can be used to send cross-border payments with ease.

Founded in 2012 by Ripple Labs, Ripple has been on a growth trajectory since 2020, and despite setbacks imposed by the US government, Ripple launched its own stablecoin RLUSD in January 2025.

*Ripple was originally called OpenCoin when it was first founded by Chris Larsen, David Schwartz, Author Britto, and Jed McCaleb; however, it was eventually decided that the name didn’t fit, and after a series of votes, Ripple was chosen instead.

Why is Ripple in the News?

Things have been rocky for Ripple since the initial bull run in 2018. It’s been seven long years, but now, finally, Ripple is once again on a growth trajectory and has finally beaten its all-time high. For reference, the all-time high for Ripple was $3.36, and the highest as of the writing of this article on July 24th, 2025, is now $3.63.

Because Ripple is bypassing its all-time high, this is one of the reasons it has been featured in the news recently. Not only that, but Ripple has managed to snag slot three on CoinMarketCap.com, meaning it has the third largest market capacity of all cryptocurrencies, after Bitcoin and Ethereum.

If that weren’t enough, Ripple has also been making moves in the stablecoin space with the release of RLUSD earlier this year. After a long-fought battle with the SEC, this is a well-deserved win for the blockchain.

Should You Invest in Ripple?

With the increased news coverage, Ripple is garnering the attention of many new investors. However, in our opinion, Ripple is far too risky of an investment for the average investor, and we don’t recommend investing if you are risk-adverse.

Not only is our opinion based on the presence of many similar projects in the space, but also because after reaching its high, Ripple suffered a severe price correction, losing almost 30% of what it gained overnight. This was likely due to a large number of long-term positions closing out as individuals who had been waiting finally saw the price they were willing to cash out for.

This also suggests that these investors aren’t optimistic about Ripple's future, or if they are, they believe it will take too long to yield benefits for them. Of course, there is a chance some of these closings of positions were due to previously scheduled transactions, but still, it makes us nervous about what will happen when the token hits $6.

All cryptocurrency tokens experience price corrections at some point or another, as non-serious investors exit the market. And while it is possible that things will turn around for Ripple, we think it is simply too volatile to take such a large risk on.

Additionally, while Ripple has invested money and manpower into entering the tech space, we aren’t sure if its reach is as far as it should be when compared to similar companies. Just because it has a large market capacity doesn’t mean it is a good investment—just that it is being used by a lot of people. In fact, when we looked into Ripple’s future plans, we found they were similar to many other blockchains on the market, meaning Ripple needs a plan in order to continue to stand out. As of the writing of this article, we aren’t sure they have that.

Obviously, if you are using Ripple regularly in a money-sending capacity, then it is definitely worth investing in. But for those who are new to investing, or even just newer, we recommend starting with an investment in something a bit more stable, that way you won’t be the one funding the closing of the positions to come.

Where Can You Buy Ripple?

Ripple is an extremely popular cryptocurrency and can be purchased on just about any exchange. While we always recommend buying crypto from an exchange where you already have an account, below are some of our favorite exchanges that trade Ripple.

·      Coinbase

·      Binance

·      Kraken

·      Robinhood

·      Bitstamp

·      Huobi Global

·      Uniswap

Do note that this is not a comprehensive list and that Ripple may be available for purchase on other exchanges not listed here.

Where to Store Ripple?

Like any cryptocurrency, it is safest to store Ripple in a hardware wallet, such as the Trezor or Nano S, although these present their own complications. Hardware wallets are the safest spot for your cryptocurrency; no matter what, they just aren’t the most user-friendly.

Those new to investing in cryptocurrency may want to consider using a software wallet, as they are easier to use. They aren’t as secure, though, so you will want to make sure that you choose one on a platform you trust. Our suggestions include the one provided by Coinbase, Atomic Wallet, or Metamask.

Overall, Ripple isn’t necessarily a bad project, and we are excited that it is once again making waves in the cryptocurrency world. That being said, Ripple is still a highly volatile token with limited use cases outside of sending money across borders. We are skeptical of what the future holds for Ripple and advise potential investors to approach with caution. Remember, all cryptocurrency trading is risky, and it is best to discuss potential trades with a financial advisor or someone else you trust before making them
